We really appreciated the welcome we received from the CVR homeowners with their own form of “Welcome Wagon”. How cool it is that they present each homeowner with a handmade welcome banner. While the colors of ours went well with the exterior house colors, the letters of the word “WELCOME” were not visible from any reasonable distance since the background and the letters were both cream. That wouldn’t be an issue if the stitching around the edges of each letter were in a dark, contrasting color, but yellow just doesn’t work.
As an art minor, I learned early on that simple yellow lettering on white backgrounds should never be used. I think some advertising ploys are to do just that for things like ingredients on various products so consumers struggle trying to read them prior to purchasing. If a poster or sign has solid yellow letters on a white background, all you need to do is outline each letter with black and it will work.
I went to Michael’s and purchased a couple acrylic paint pens with the idea of decorating the interior of each letter. I found a perfect gray-green, and a black.
Barry and I loved the result. We hung it back up on the front porch. How nice it was to be able to read the “WELCOME” when driving up the road to the house! Then when you are close to the porch you can see the different detail within each letter. What do you think?
Look at you two…All crafty now!
LOL–creative, but only the lettering.
Looks much nicer this way. Good job.
Thanks, Marilyn! I really like it on the front porch.
Yay!! Congrats friends!
