Our Washington travel plans brought us to the Vancouver, Washington area. When we knew we were able to stay four nights here, we made plans to get in some pickleball with CVR (Carefree Village Resort, Yuma) picklers who are from the nearby area.
Day 1 – July 26, Barry and I met Jimmy Richardson, Dottie Truelove, Herb and Joyce Hamerlynck in Stevenson, WA. Dottie led us to a set of courts where she plays regularly. How cool it was to have Herb and Joyce come over from Oregon to join us! We played for about 3 hours. The games were all great! We had so much fun!!
We all went to lunch afterwards at Big River Bar and Grill. Burgers were awesome. Guess I had worked up an appetite. I didn’t even think about taking any pictures when the food arrived. We all just dove right in.
Walking to the car I noticed a little area with artistically painted furniture. I had to take pictures! Not sure if it was meant as only an art display or if people were invited to use them. There were no signs saying not to sit and enjoy, but we were on our way back to Vancouver, WA.
DAY 2 – July 27
The next day, Barry and I met everyone again, but today we played in Washougal, Washington. Jamie Richardson (Jimmy’s son) also joined us today! Here there were 8 courts. Another day of fun, but the skill levels seemed to vary more. It was great to spend time on and off the courts with good pickler friends from CVR.
After about 4 hours, Barry and I agreed to call it quits. But before that, I got to play my final game with Jimmy.
Barry and I enjoyed watching Jimmy and Jamie partnering up for a game before we left. It wasn’t a real challenging game for Jim and Jamie, but it is fun to watch them truly play as a team!
Dottie was still playing, so I got a short clip of her.
It was fun to get together with everyone. See you all back at CVR later in the fall!
Off to pick blackberries!
Fun times. Those decorative tables in Stevenson were put on during the Covid pandemic so people could “order to go” and eat outside. They get used all the time.
Cool. I wondered if they might have been “Covid-inspired”. Very nice addition.
