Palm Springs Tram Ride

Dec 26 may not have been the best day to go to the Palm Springs Tram. We had to park at the bottom-most lot and wait in a long line for a shuttle. Barry and I decided to walk it. It was a lot further than the 1/4 mile someone leaving said it was. It was also much steeper than we expected. We made it to the tram area about the same time Janet & Bob made it via the shuttle. When we got to the counter to purchase our tram tickets we were told it would be a 3 hour wait! The time actually passed fairly quickly since we had the four of to chat, have a snack and walk around .

The tram itself was pretty cool. The floor actually rotates slowly around to give everyone fair chance for views. Therefore, you are NOT supposed to hold onto the outer window area and keep moving your feet because the people “behind” you are running into you. Yes, someone was doing that even though they explained this. I just gave up and went around them when I realized they were not going to let go. The floor makes 2 full revolutions on the ride up and the ride down.

There was snow at the top! It was incredible the difference in weather. Because most trails had a good bit of ice on them, Barry and I did a short hike, but took lots of photos. The good news for us was that with the delay to get up to the top on the tram, we could get to be up here for sunset. Unfortunately, Janet and Bob had to leave since they had three little dogs back in their RV.

Barry and I managed to get reservations for dinner in the nice restaurant. OMG. SO glad we decided to eat here AND got in! This was THE BEST entire meal we have had out at a restaurant in many years. we each ordered small salads to start. Mine was the beet salad. Wow—best ever! It had 3 different types of beets, feta cheese, and candied lemon. We split the main entree’ of filet mignon. It was magnificent! It was so tender and sliced like butter! Perfection! For a $10 charge they split the entree for us and gave us double veggies. (Asparagus –also perfectly prepared.) At this point we splurged for desert. Creme Broulee’. Did NOT disappoint. This entire meal was truly spectacular. It was nice and romantic and very special due to the spontaneity.

It was hard to go outside for pictures because the temperature had dropped significantly after sunset, and the wind was pretty fierce. We had to get pictures though of the huge Christmas tree of lights. When we finally rode the tram down and took the shuttle to our Jeep, the driver knew which lot we were in without telling him. Wow. That’s impressive. Well, duh, we were one of only about 2 other cars left in the lots down the hill. 🙂 It was a great day!
