Retirement can be tough for some, but Barry and I are thriving in ours! We love our pickleball addiction to stay physically active. I would usually play twice a day. We got in as much quality play as we could throughout March and April by inviting several players from outside CVR to play with us on our courts in the evening. It was great to play in cooler temps under the lights. I also enjoyed being invited to four other Yuma RV resorts to get quality morning play. Staying physically active is a priority for us.
Watch below to see Barry hit a great drop shot for Jimmy to put into the net. š
During Covid Barry and I got quite accustomed to chilling out in the afternoon in a pool using our inflatable float chairs. We could relax so well that we would end up taking a little nap in a corner of the pool away from others. Barry still enjoys chillin’ out at the pool in the afternoon. He prefers a rather empty pool so he can easily grab a quick nap. He does like visiting with others, but not near as much as I do. These last couple months at CVR, I would sometimes text friends when we were heading to the pool, or they would text me. Time was coming quickly when they’d start leaving Arizona till next winter, so I tried to make it a little more, but I had to make sure it was early enough not to interfere with dinner and getting to evening pickleball.
When Kelly was away working one of her bus trips, she sent us a picture with the following text:
“I am so overworked. I wish you all were here, I need some pool buddies.”
Perfect timing for that picture and text because several of us were at our pool! We took a picture and I sent it to her telling her SHE was at the WRONG pool!
Clockwise: Barry, Dale, Steve, Kirk, Rose and me.
Yes, that is an ice pack on my ankle. I was going for a low, hard, and deep serve to Joe a couple hours earlier on a pickleball court. The serve ended up short because my paddle connected “low, hard and deep” right to my ankle bone. OUCH! All was good though. I put some arnica oil on it immediately and an “emergency” snap – cold pack right there at the court, and put real ice on it once I was home. Worked great in the pool!
Barry and I look forward to getting in a little pickleball at Mackenzie Creek Park in Chula Vista while we are there May and June, but spending as much quality time with our Grandkids will be the number one priority.
We are extremely thankful for our health and mobility that allows for our active lifestyle. We know life has no guarantees, so it is important for us to embrace our passions which includes planned RV travels. This is why we have decided to continue with our major trip to the East Coast – a trip of 9200 miles. Yes, it will be more costly with the diesel prices, but we need to make such a trip while we are physically and mentally able to do it in the motorhome.
Live life simply but with passion.
Well said my friend . Iām excited to hear about your adventures on your trip east. Safe travels kids!
Thank you.
Another good one. I’m glad you are taking your big trip. Miss you guys.
Thank you! (Of course now we are hearing about a possible LACK of diesel in the NE this summer. It’s always something.)
Enjoy those grandkids and the journey East.
Thank you…we’ll give it our best. š
