Orlando Thousand Trails Resort – 3 weeks Dec 2019

We decided to check out Florida for a winter this year. Well, at least the first part of the winter season – December 1 through mid-January. This trip is also the farthest we have gone to date with our motorhome. We were excited to see more states. We kicked off the first 3 weeks at the Thousand Trails Orlando RV Resort, which is actually a Clermont, Florida address. It’s so nice to have this Thousand Trails location! Our membership allowed us to book our reservation 120 days in advance. We got a full three weeks because our dates were just prior to peak season when the maximum stay is only 2 weeks unless you pay for a monthly, 2-3-months or longer.

Check-in is 12 noon, and no sooner! You cannot come down Thousand Trails Blvd till then either! Arriving about 11:50, we had to continue in and turn around at the office building/large parking lot and go back out to the 27 till it was noon. I drove slowly–after all it did say 5 mph! Once we turned out of the park drive onto the 27, we made a u-turn at the light to come right back to the park since it was now 11:58. We got into the left turn lane behind two other RVs waiting to make the turn onto Thousand Trails Blvd. There was also a line of several RVs coming up from the other direction. They were able to be off on the right side of the road just waiting for noon. THAT would be the best place to get in line when you arrive prior to noon!

TT was super organized. Kudos to them! They have all RVs who have done an express check-in over the phone the day before go straight through the gate, take the first left and continue to the large parking lot on the right right after the pickleball courts. Staff meet you there and get ready to escort you to a site. This is also where you disconnect toads. When ready a staff member in a golf cart escorts you to an available site. The person asks you if you are satisfied with it. When you accept the site, the person immediately radios in that you have taken site #_. How nice to actually know what sites are available!! What a concept. 🙂 FYI: The MAJORITY of sites are full hookups with 50 amp!!

NOTE: You do NOT want to return to the park from doing errands anywhere from 11:45 AM to 1:00 PM, or you will be backed up behind a string of RVs coming in! (Only one entrance to the park.)

We loved our site: C-21. It was a corner spot with tons of room! We were nice and close to the main building, pickleball courts and swimming pools. We really weren’t here all that much since we decided to get a ten-day pass for the Disney Parks. Weather didn’t always cooperate during our stay. One night we would run the air conditioner and the next night we’d have to run the heater. We had some rain, but got lucky with several fronts slipping past us.

If you like more privacy, the section down near the lake will provide that. Evidently, if you go down to the lake in the evening you can see the various fireworks from the Disney parks! We never did because we either saw them in the park or were too tired to care. LOL

This park location is pretty ideal for going to all the Disney Parks. 20-30 minutes to the parking lots! Not a huge amount of traffic or big back-ups. I think we actually had more traffic when we came home than on our way to the parks.

Having packages sent here was NO problem! Super nice people and no charge for packages, as some TT do! Not sure why some are allowed to charge $2 a package.

Orlando TT has 6 brand new dedicated pickleball courts! This along with the 4 they already had makes it a great place to play. People tended to show up by 8:30 and 9 to play till about noon. Multiple levels of play was available, but generally it was 2.0-2.5. There were a handful of 3.5+ players. I enjoyed playing with Peter, Bill, Derrick, Jim, and a few others of whom I don’t recall their names. I played as often and as long as I could. I was even able to get some decent play if it wasn’t an early morning Disney park day.

We also played water volleyball a couple of times when we were around, and weather permitted. This is played in the activities pool (must be 18 or older to play). The main family pool is next to it and pictured below. The hot tub is in the same area, but the jets were not working.

I would definitely recommend this park and would come back again.
