Barry and I happened to make a quick stop at a fabulous “safety rest area” two days ago in Texas. We didn’t come across anymore as modern and spacious…till today. OMG! Today’s rest stop even surpassed that first one! It is easily accessed off I-10 eastbound, Exit 814. Talk about a true roadside rest! So peaceful. There seemed to be little to no highway noise for those needing a few hours of sleep or staying the entire night. This is in part because the big rig parking area is on the far right side of the rest area (away from the highway). Typically it is the section closest to the highway. The amount of land, buildings and trees between the highway and the semi/Rv parking also buffer highway noise. The big rig parking spots are HUGE–and plentiful! I’m guessing at about 20. Bathrooms are amazing! The main building interior is very aesthetically pleasing. There are a number of picnic tables and sitting area in tucked away areas with shade. Decking walkways connect multiple bathrooms, parking lots, picnic areas and even a play area! This would be a perfect stop for a quick traveling overnight. It looked like there may be one off the westbound side as well.
As we crossed into Louisiana, there was a visitor center right off Interstate 10 (Eastbound). It looked quite spacious for parking. So another option. 🙂
