Nov 22-24 We’re a Great Team

I am so glad that when we first thought about getting a motorhome we agreed that we would only get one if we BOTH were comfortable driving it. Not only are we both comfortable driving Vinny, we both enjoy it, so we share driving 50-50. This also allows us to have occasional days where we drive much more than we typically do in a day. We usually like to start driving about 8 or 9 in the morning, and be parked by 1 PM. That gives us a chance to relax, enjoy where we are, have dinner and make sure we both know where we are headed the next day. BUT when we are simply planning to spend the night in a rest area, we don’t need to stop as early.

Nov 22, Barry drove the first three hours today. We were shocked to see the speed limit was 80 mph! NO, we didn’t drive that fast. We generally keep our cruise control set to about 64. We stopped briefly at a rest area and switched seats/roles. It was an amazing rest area. We were excited assuming all of them would be like this. Well, you know what they say about assuming. LOL When we arrived at the rest area that we planned to stay for the night, it was pretty small, and already full, so we decided to drive to the next one. We ended up driving an additional 120 miles, but were so glad we did. Even though together we drove a total of 7 1/2 hours, It really didn’t seem that long of a day! Interstate 10 East has been a great road. We arrived at the rest area at Kerrville, Tx about 4 PM, and had plenty of spots to choose from. I selected the very first long spot where we would not have anyone on our left side. In fact, with a hill next to us we were able to put out our full slide on the driver side! We had a gorgeous sunset to start our evening. It was nice to know that tomorrow’s drive will now be 120 miles less. Barry and I make a great team! All was quiet here with the exception of an RV two spots over that ran their generator all night!

Today Barry drove from the rest area at Kerrville, TX to the Colorado River Thousand Trails. I-10 was a bit sketchy around San Antonio with a lot of road construction. One stretch was so rough with different levels of pavement that it really rocked us. We were very thankful that there was no large vehicle or semi in the other lane next to us. Then we came up on stuff all over about 3 lanes of the road. We didn’t know what it was at first. Thought it was metal and glass from a major accident, but it was actually a huge amount of aluminum cans! That was a bit scary. We finally got beyond that and the road got much better again.

Having a much shorter drive today allowed us to arrive at the Colorado River Thousand Trails with perfect timing to get the last full hook-up site that was pretty level and long. This park is beautiful with decent space between sites. Check out the picture in the slideshow below that shows our view right out our door! BONUS: A pickleball court is right across the road behind us! Only 99 steps from our coach steps to the court! And that is staying on the shorter mowed grass. Course no one here seems to play, but Barry and I got a couple games in before the sunset was over. There are deer everywhere! Love the feeling/vibe this place has!

What a beautiful day! It was nice to sleep in. Barry and I played pickleball till it was time for the Seahawks game. We watched it via YouTube TV. When the game was over, we went back out for more pickleball! We have further to go after missed or errant balls since there is no fence, but it wasn’t bad. Why can’t Pio Pico have a nice, simple, little court like this!? We’ve decided we would rather have a longer day again tomorrow so that we could stay two nights at the L”Auberge Casino in Baton Rouge, LA. It won’t be as long or as far as it was on the 22nd. I’m really looking forward to meeting up with a college sorority sister Tuesday evening!! Another gorgeous sunset before dinner. Nice way to cap off our stay here at Colorado River TT!
