Nov 18-20, 2019 Yuma/Tucson

Came back to enjoy!

NOV 18
We’ve started out on our next travel adventure. First stop–YUMA. We stayed with our friends, Janet and Bob Bockus. How nice that they have room for us to park right at their place–and even plug into 50 amp electric!
I walked over to Westwind RV to visit Bob and Denise Filiau. We met Bob & Denise last Dec/Jan at the Palm Desert/Palm Springs Thousand Trails. They were kind enough to get us acquainted with pickleball. We also created a bond when we discovered we were all doing the Keto diet. They shared their favorite bread recipe with me, that I am so grateful for. LOVE it! It was great to see them and especially to be able to get a few games in at the courts at Westwind. Unfortunately, I didn’t think to get any pictures!

We had a wonderful relaxing evening with Janet and Bob. Dinner was great–as usual, and then we played a few rounds of Uno. (See what you started, Don Richardson!?!) Once again…no pics.

Time was too short to make it over to the Palms RV to visit Kelly and Bob Robinson. BUT we will be back for the entire month of March. 🙂

NOV 19-20
We arrived at Voyager RV Resort in Tucson, AZ this afternoon. Unfortunately, it was a rainy day most of the way! I am now extremely competent using Vinny’s windshield wipers since the amount of rain varied drastically every few minutes. The intermittent feature is amazing. I can set it to exactly what I need and it can be changed very quickly and easily. Not fun though driving during downpours with visibility hindered especially as I hit the Tucson area with more traffic, but we made it safely.

Barry and I went out and explored the park when the rain let up. We were both impressed with it. They have three pools…a deep lap pool, a 3-foot “social” pool where they have water volleyball starting in Jan, and a covered lap and water therapy & exercise pool. There is one “regular” hot tub, and one party one with a palapa. The gym is decent and the treadmills look out the full windows toward the pools.

The pickleball courts are fabulous. 14 of them!!! All dedicated pb courts. Unfortunately, due to the weather, there was no one playing this afternoon or evening. I’m hoping for some games tomorrow! Surely they have a few players as addicted as me!?!

There is a great new area called “The Bay” where manufactured homes are. There were a few that even had the large covered area for a decent size Class A motorhome! Collecting info on them for future reference. New homes appear to start at $104,600. You do NOT own the land, however. The monthly land rent ranges from $616 – $689 based on location. https://www.voyagerrv.com/homes-for-sale/bay-homes/

Today I got some pickleball in. Luckily three others showed up to play. We had several decent games. The wind became quite a factor for the last few games. Then I had the opportunity to play my first game of singles using the entire court. I lost, but had a great time.

When I realized main stream square dancing was supposedly going on, I found my square dancing shoes and went over to check it out. It was more like some basics/lessons, but I got to dance. They invited me back for the plus workshop at 1 PM. It was pretty cool talking with the caller afterwards as we discovered callers we both knew–especially: Marshal Flippo (passed away recently), Jerry Junck, Daryl Clendenin, and Ken Bower. :

When Barry and I went out for a walk today, we went to “The Cove” area of homes. These are not manufactured homes, but stick built homes. Homeowners own the lot as well in this section. We met 3 different homeowners while out. All three could not say enough great things about living in “The Cove”. Sue even took us to her home to meet her husband and see their place. Wow, what friendly people! Discovered they are from Bellingham, WA!! Their neighbors, Shirley & Jerry were from near Columbus, Ohio. I asked Sue and Ken Thomas what the cons were to living here. They didn’t have any–other than you MAY want to leave in June when it is the hottest, but they have solar and simply use their air conditioning! Homes seem to range from $180k – $230k. Property taxes are approximately $700 yearly. The HOA is $350 quarterly ($1400 yrly). Cove residents have full access to all activities within the Voyager Resort! We look forward to returning to the RV area for an extended stay possibly next year!
