I was so excited to meet up with Lynne and Eric Ogren – my best friends from Oak Harbor. Barry and I had an incredible visit with them when they lived in Wrangell, Alaska. A few years later when we retired and became full-time RVers, they were our first planned stop in Lewistown, Montana, which was another fun week with them. Timing is everything. Lynne and Eric literally JUST relocated to Brush Prairie, Washington and were available the one day we were in the Portland area. Unfortunately, we were also looking at triple digit heat records while here. The four of us set out to see Multnomah Falls in the morning. The falls was beautiful. Since it was heating up fast, we were all content with making it up to the halfway point bridge.
We saw high on a cliff from a riverside park what we learned to be Crown Point Vista House. Eric got us to it. Great aerial views.
We went back to our motorhome at Fairview RV Encore Park to visit more and eat lunch. The air conditioner was working hard, but with only 30amp, and the severe draw from the entire park, as well as all of Portland, it wasn’t cooling enough and the drop in voltage necessitated closer monitoring.
We decided to check out the pool. We knew it wasn’t very big, and the water was a bit murky yesterday, but hopefully it would be refreshing. What the heck!?! The pool was CLOSED! Evidently too much sunscreen from everyone the couple days prior. How sad — we have 115° degree heat and the one and only pool is closed! You’d think they would have someone to stay on top of the water quality, especially with the record breaking heat wave this summer. Not impressed with the extremely limited amenities for an Encore park. It has to be the convenient location to Portland that makes this a busy place. On the positive side for Fairview RV Park, it was great to already be assigned a site prior to arrival! Our site was a very level pull through site with a concrete patio and picnic table. Just too bloody hot to be outside.
Lucky for us, the game room next to the pool was unoccupied and was an awesome 74 degrees! We decided to take advantage of this cool relief, so it was cribbage on! It was girls vs the guys. Lynne and I won the first two games! Then Eric and Barry skunked us. Eric felt much better. At least it wasn’t a “double skunk”. We said goodbye, but are confident we will be together again.
