Barry and I brought out our new Monarch Dragon Slayer pickleball paddles that I bought over a year ago in preparation for this retirement lifestyle. We ventured to a court by ourselves to see if we had any possibility of playing the game. I was so happy when I realized that YES, we can do this!! It is so much more doable for me than tennis! We met Melba and Paul Alban from Nevada, who happened to have a site near one of the courts inside the park near campsites. They offered to play doubles with us to help us learn the game-especially the serving and scoring part. I lost most games I played, but I didn’t care because it was so much fun! Barry was surprised how much I kept wanting to play even though I wasn’t winning at all. Yes, I’m competitive, but winning isn’t everything!
We started playing in the morning out front where there were at least 4 courts and a lot of people show up to play. They used the “baskets system” where you put your paddle at the end and then when a game on any given court ends, the winners stay, but split and the first two paddles go to that court. Most were very welcoming and helpful, and willing to play with us. After all, it would only be one game. We met Bob and Denise Filiau who played additional games with us. We had so much fun with them! I think I’m getting addicted!
While talking with Bob and Denise before we left, we discovered that we were all doing the Keto eating plan. We were just starting the Keto diet, but Bob & Denise have been eating that way for several months. They shared a bread recipe that Bob just loves! Denise and I became friends on Facebook so we could stay connected.
