INSIDE Our New Home

The majority of our furniture arrived from Mor Furniture For Less on February 18, 2021. The couch and TV console with a fireplace didn’t arrive till March and April. Luckily those pieces were not critical for our daily living. They just kept our living room from feeling complete and being able to do this blog post.) Of course Covid-19 has been the reason for items taking so long to arrive, but considering we also changed our initial order significantly a couple times and added additional pieces because we could, it really wasn’t that bad.

Mor Furniture was awesome to work with. Not only will they hold everything till your house is ready, you are able to add or change things while your order is considered “open” without any penalty/charge. AND when you add items, if that item was cheaper at the time of your initial order, you get that lower price! Your order becomes final once it is delivered. Therefore, no payments are made till after furniture is delivered. The Labor Day Sale options at the time of our initial order included 2 years 0% financing and either free delivery, or NO tax. With all we were purchasing, it was better for us to select the NO Tax option, and pay the maximum $300 delivery fee. UNLIKE, other furniture places in the area, that $300 charge covered as many deliveries to our house as necessary till our complete order was delivered. We would NOT have to wait till everything arrived to have things delivered with one trip. (Furniture Row Furniture (FR)–buyer beware! FR is not one big store making one order for all the rooms of your house as you would assume. They have separate shipping fees for different sections. And if you don’t wait for everything to come in for one delivery, they will charge an additional delivery fee for each subsequent delivery from your order! ) So glad we found everything we liked for our entire house at Mor Furniture!

We are loving our new home! Being a two bedroom, two bath home, it is the perfect size for us, and is able to accommodate family or friends who may come to visit.

NOW for the tour:
Welcome to our kitchen and dining area
.

I LOVE the amount of workspace in my kitchen! Storage capacity is amazing. I have a place for everything without crowding, and have available cabinet space left! What a great feeling!!

Our wine corner and appetizer plates
I rarely use the dishwasher. It is so much easier just to wash the few dishes we tend to have. Coffee prep corner
The kitchen window and two of the dining area windows are on the south side of the house. They look out to the carport/patio area.

I didn’t know how much we’d actually use the dining table, but surprisingly, we sit at the table most evenings for dinner. I’m really happy we have made this our normal routine here. It is important to me for us to share our main meal together like this. The dining chairs swivel making it much easier to get in and out.

The two “bar stools” at the kitchen island we purchased from The Oak Tree Furniture Store. They also swivel 360 degrees. I LOVE this feature for these stools because if I’m sitting at the island counter working on something, I can easily turn to see something on the TV. These stools provide additional seating when we have guests. Everyone can easily be part of the conversation in the living room. We can have serious Seahawk fans in this area to watch a Seahawks football game this coming fall. 🏈 The not-so-serious watchers can visit or play a game at the dining table instead, yet still have a view of the TV when they want.

Our LIVING ROOM:

Daytime
Evening

The couch and loveseat are both super comfy! All but the middle couch section fully recline, and also have lumbar support and head tilt features. The coffee table and end tables open for full storage. The rug is super soft and came from rugs.com. This was the first I tried ordering a rug online, and only did so because of their great return policy! They even held the rug for me for a couple months till the house was ready.

We switched to this tv console with a fireplace because we unexpectedly love the one in the motorhome. It provides just the right amount of heat on a chilly morning or chilly evening! The ambience without the heat feature is great for that instant, cozy home feeling. We turn the “flames” on every evening. Believe it or not, we do have chilly mornings and evenings here in Yuma during the winter months. The heat feature will take care of any morning or evening chill without having to turn the house thermostat to heat.

While we preferred the look of this console, it did make fitting the 65 inch TV and the sound bar on it a challenge. The sound bar was about 2 inches too long to fit in the front opening. To allow the sound bar to sit in front of the TV and between the TV stand feet, it caused these narrow feet to touch both the back and front edges of the console top. That was a little scary with the cost of new TVs. So we chose to use a wall mount for the TV. We got the “Full Motion” mount from Sam’s Club. It was perfect. It totally solved our dilemma. Not only was the TV now much more stable, we had new versatility for complete viewing in our open concept living areas. We can pull the TV out from the wall and turn it toward the kitchen/dining area. We do this regularly when I’m at the island prepping dinner or baking, and when we are at the dining table. If we have another couple sitting on the couch and Barry and I in the loveseat, we can pull it out some and move it slightly to the left, and then angle it slightly toward the couch for optimum viewing for all of us.

Our Master Bedroom:

A simple room with our queen latex mattress on a fully adjustable base, two night stands, and a matching dresser. This soft 8 x 10 rug came from American Furniture Warehouse in Glendale, AZ. (Thank you, Kelly & Bob for picking it up for us.)

Our walk-in closet:

The Master Bath (2 separate sections)
1 – Double sink area with storage galore

We chose rectangular sinks, and love them!

Due to the medicine cabinets on each side wall, there really wasn’t a spot to hang a hand towel. I tried a stand up towel holder, but I didn’t like using the center counter space for that, so I got two toilet tissue holders to try. They were exactly what I was looking for! Sometimes you just have to think outside the box.

2 – Shower and toilet with bidet seat

There is a pocket door for privacy between the toilet/shower area and the sink area. Enjoying such a nice sized shower.

The 2nd Bedroom:
Since the 2nd bedroom is fairly small, we decided to get a sofa bed vs setting up a queen bed. This way WE can make use of this room the majority of the time, yet we will still have a room to offer guests when they come visit. It will also give guests a place to go sit and read, or just have time to themselves without a bed taking up the entire room. It will also give Isaac and Mona more space to play together or play alone. This may become more important in a couple years.

HUGE queen sofa bed
Nesting tables with an LED light.

Who expects to find a rug they like at Lowe’s? Well, this is actually the third one we discovered there. The first one was the one we put in our family room up in Everett, Wa after we remodeled. Then we found the one we use inside our motorhome to give it a warm, homey feel. And now this one!

Rug from Lowe’s!

We loved this rug in here, but the original pillows caused the “couch” to clash with the rug. I took those pillows of the bed. It was just those pillows that were blowing it. I thought blue ones may do the trick to tie things together. Walmart had the perfect ones!

The Laundry area and shoe/coat rack space:
The LG washer and dryer are fabulous. I can wash ANYTHING! They are massive in that space, but I wanted a set that would get things clean, be able to handle ALL our bedding, and are quiet. I am amazed at the usable storage in the pedestals AND in the cabinets above. Luckily, we don’t need the highest shelves in those wall cabinets.

We have a pocket door to use when we wish to close off the laundry area. We actually close it every night since the side door from the carport is half windows. The coat and shoes area right inside this doorway was inspired by Jerry and Belinda (neighbors here in the park). I didn’t just want a place for shoes, but also a place to sit and put them on. I found this in the perfect chocolate walnut stain at Bed Bath & Beyond. It is a cedar shower seat. It works great and is so sturdy! I really like the artistic yet comfortable slight curve it has. This is also where we hang a light windbreaker jacket, hat and our keys. Mornings and evenings can be a bit breezy/chilly.

The 2nd Bathroom:
This bathroom is across from the second bedroom, and is also convenient to use from both the carport and living room. This bathroom has a bath tub. How nice to be able to take an Epsom Salts bath again!

I took multiple pictures in an attempt to represent the layout of our home and give you a good feel for it since you are not here to walk through and experience it first hand. We love the flow this floor plan has, and the breathing room it allows us when we aren’t traveling. Most walls are bare at this point. Decorative touches will come later. For now we are simply relaxing and enjoying being settled in. We will be taking off in about 18 days to live and travel in Vinny for several months.

I hope you enjoyed this tour of our place. Consider coming for a visit. We LOVE living several months here at Carefree Village Resort (CVR). It is a wonderful playground/”summer camp” for adults! As much as we are looking forward to our upcoming travels, we also look forward to returning in the fall to our wonderful, new home base, and to our new friends in this community. 🥰

    1. Thank you! We thought about trying to do a southwestern style at least in one room, but it just isn’t us. We had to go with what we would enjoy for several years.

    1. Thank you! I think it helped that we found all the main pieces at the same store. (And that I like to shop.)
