March began as the month for us to visit Yuma and check out alternatives for us to consider as a future home base, but has turned into an extended stay due to Covid-19. Extending here at Fortuna De Oro (FDO) for the month of April was a no-brainer. The number of confirmed cases in Yuma County was only 3 at the beginning of the month, and only 28 last week. FDO closed to overnighters and was not accepting any new reservations for the rest of spring and summer. Since the resort pools are closed, we ordered an inflatable pool to help us deal with the heat that was due to arrive. Thank goodness we prepared as soon as we decided to extend for April. These pools are no longer available on Amazon!! We are extremely blessed to have such a fabulous place to ride out the “Stay at Home” and “Social Distancing” orders that are in effect for the West and Southwest. Pio Pico doesn’t offer much in the best of times other than the convenient location of being only 5 miles from our grandkids, but due to California “Stay Home” orders we wouldn’t be able to see them even if we went back to Pio in April.
100 degree temperatures arrived this week! Our pool became our sanctuary to escape the heat. We actually put warm water into the pool, so that we could get in right away. The high will remain in the low 100’s for about five more days! The pool is definitely our personal oasis and key to surviving this heat!! Management has just looked the other way when it comes to pools like ours. There are at least 4 similar to ours throughout the park.
This week as the one hundred degree temperatures became a reality, people started packing up and pulling out. Our views just keep getting better! I love having a great view in all directions now. We are now one of only two motorhomes on our entire street! We are at one end and they are at the opposite end of the street. Nice!
We’ve enjoyed being in Yuma for April and were thinking about returning May 1 to California, but discovered we are not allowed into Pio Pico even though we have a lease site there. We won’t know when it will reopen. Governor Newsom of California said they aren’t likely to seriously look at lifting restrictions till mid-May. So much for having our lease site. Looks like we may be extending at FDO for the month of May.
