Leaving the Holocaust Museum I knew we needed something more fun for the remainder of the day. We went to the American History Museum. While not all American History is “fun”, this museum had some fun, nostalgic displays.
I love the above picture of 4 former US Presidents together. A time when they respected their predecessors, as well as the current President because they all wanted what was best for America even though they disagreed with policies.
President Harry Truman was behind installing the first White House bowling Alley in 1947.
Americans at War
Steel column assembly from the 70th floor of the World Trade Center’s south tower:
The Medal of Honor was established during the Civil War. It has become the nation’s highest award for valor in combat. It is customarily presented by the President of the United States in the name of Congress. There are three uniquely different designs.
I used to enjoy playing with paper dolls!
TV Dinners!! Boy, do I remember these! The fried chicken with succotash and mashed potatoes. Soon they included a tiny apple crisp.
A section on wine! The part that I’m sharing interested me because John and Virgie initially educated me about Old Vine Zinfandels.
Barry and I enjoyed the variety within this American History Museum. It allowed for us to be drawn to areas of interest – together or separately, prompted time to reminiscence, and to remember events throughout our lives as well those prior to our existence. After the intense Holocaust Museum this morning, we welcomed this mix of nostalgic history and American History, and we fully appreciated the freedom to roam into any area and in any order you desired.
