Today Barry and I got up and headed to Sanibel Island. What beautiful views as you come over the causeway bridge! Pictures really don’t capture it. We drove the Jeep loaded with our bikes. The toll to come onto the island was $6 for 2 axles. We parked at Bowman’s Beach. Wow–$5 an hour for parking! A maximum amount for “all day” was not an option. Guess they don’t want you camping out for 8 hours. We paid for 4.5 hours.
After parking, we took the bikes to the beach. I couldn’t ride my bike on the beach, so I just walked it while Barry rode his and got a little drone footage.
It was a bit chilly to fully enjoy the beach, so we decided to explore the island on our bikes before relaxing on the beach. We headed up the island to Captiva. The bike path was awesome! Unfortunately, it didn’t go all the way to Captiva, but there was a narrow “bike” shoulder to use when the designated bike path ended.
A lot of the beach in Captiva is marked as private. The homes along the way to Captiva were huge! The landscaping was spectacular. Many of the homes weren’t even visible from the road, but I enjoyed reading the various estate names. Since I was riding my bike I did not get pictures of them.
Reminded me of Kauai! Can’t imagine
We stopped at the Bubble Room. OMG! Beyond words! Check out these pictures. Bubble Room began 40 years ago. A definite quirky, yet nostalgic and fun visit. We did not eat lunch there since we have plans to eat later in Ft. Myers.

Parking at the public beach near the end of Captiva was $6 an hour, so I guess we got a bargain at Bowman’s Beach. We were able to stop to check out another public beach in Captiva where we just parked our bikes.
We rode back to Bowman’s Beach for some beach time. The sun was quite warm so Barry and I took a full dip in the Gulf of Mexico. It was refreshing. Bowman’s Beach allows alcohol on the beach, but Captiva public beach does not!
Soon it was time to head back to Fort Myers where we were going to meet up with Dennis and Joyce Dudycha at Bamini Bait Shack. We met Dennis and Joyce about a year and a half ago as we were just getting started with our nomadic life. I badly sprained my ankle moments after pulling into our campsite. They were parked across from us and offered to help. They checked back with Barry to see how I was after we returned from the hospital. We’ve stayed in touch via Facebook. It was nice to get together in person with them today! We had a wonderful visit! We really look forward to our paths crossing again.
