Dallas Elks- Location, Location, Location!

April 18, 2024
Lake Tawakoni Thousand Trails was a very peaceful place where we had full hook-ups, but it was just too far away from things we wanted to do in Dallas.

Being an Elk, we take advantage of those throughout the country with RV sites if they coincide with where we are trying to stay. It has worked out a lot. They are almost always closer to places/sites we want to explore than a Thousand Trails. The Dallas Elks has 6 RV spaces. They had ONE spot open. Barry quickly reserved it for 6 nights. It is best NOT to be in site #1. It is the most unleveled site, but that was what was available. We had to accept not being level, otherwise, our rear tires would be 8-10 inches off the ground! That was not acceptable, so we dealt with the slope in the RV. Luckily after 4 nights someone left, and we were able to relocate to site #5. HUGE difference! Definitely, worth moving the rig and delaying our adventure for the day!

Facilities:
Right next to the RV sites is their newly renovated swimming pool. It is really nice!! We took advantage of it the day we arrived since it was in the upper 70s, and the water temp was good. After that we were either out sightseeing, or it was raining and/or too cold.

RV-ers are given a key card when checkin with Robin in office. That got us into the building and into the pool area where we could access one of three different showers. Since sewer hookup was not an option at any of the RV sites, and there was no onsite dump station, using the provided showers facilities worked out great.

Other kudos for this location:

  • An Albertson’s grocery was located right next door! Now that’s handy!
  • We had easy access from here to downtown destinations!
  • We were only a couple miles from an amazing park with a paved bike and walk path all around White Rock Lake!

The people here were super friendly. Robin in the office was great!
She stopped what she was doing to give us a full tour around the property.

From here we visited the JFK assassination site, George W Bush Presidential Center/Library, White Rock Lake Trail, and the Dallas Arboretum. Stay tuned.

  1. Blogging is a lot of fun and I enjoy yours. I blogged during our 13 years on the road . Recently I looked for my blog and found it and put it on my homepage. It’s fun to go back and read some of our entries. And as our memory declines, it helps to remember when and where we visited.

    1. Yes! That’s why I enjoy doing it. I want to have our adventures documented with narrative and photos/videos to relive them as we get older. I also wanted something to share our journeys with our family and friends. I wish I could keep current. I have too many other interests and passions. LOL. Thank you for posting.
