Today, Sunday March 5, we participated in CVR’s (Carefree Village Resort) CanAm Games for pickleball. To be as fair as possible, Brenda L. and Bob M. grouped everyone into one of three levels for paired playing between USA teams and Canadian teams. Barry and I both played in the advance player group – although neither of us played well today. I think I finally reached the point where I need to take a day or two to rest my shoulder and elbow, and get back to the chiropractor. I’ve been pretty immune till now. DANG! (A CopperFit elbow sleeve is on its way!)
Thank you, Ken Wahl for all the American flags that we used to decorate the outside of the courts. The size was perfect!
From talking with a few other advance USA players, I think the intermediate group and the novice group helped us the most in earning the AMERICAN WIN!
Typically the two teams cheered their teammates on, but it was nice when an awesome shot was recognized by both countries. Picklers really support each other.
The event culminated on Monday with a huge potluck in the Rec Hall. Almost everyone attended.
The results of yesterday’s play was reported out by Doug.
The Americans won! A total of 80 games were played. USA won 45 games. Canada won 35 games. Total points scored from each game were added for each country in case the number of wins ended in a tie at 40 games each. The US only had 24 points more than Canada.
The annual CAN-AM competition is now tied at 2 and 2. (New label is not added yet.) Canada won in 2019 and 2020. USA won in 2022 and 2023. Get ready for 2024!
More importantly it was a fun day. While everyone demonstrated their love of country in this annual CanAm competition, it is all the other days that made today special. This is ONE amazing group of people who clearly love pickleball. It is that love of the game, and the laughs we share before, during and after the daily games, that sparks many special friendships!
Rick and I are enjoying these posts. Thank you for sharing this!
“Go USA”
Thanks, we participated in the 1st two before moving on but I loved the pics and posts. Incredible group of folks that have become lifetime friends all for the Love of the game!!
Pickleball has been our major avenue of meeting people. Agree–great people, great friends!
So cool!
Fantastic detailing of the patriotic fun!
Thank you. Always nice to see people are actually looking at and reading my blogs. Even though they are for us to have a nice record of our travels and our full retirement journey, it means a lot to share them and have others “travel with us.I hope our children and grandchildren will have a chance to enjoy them some day.
Great job Nancy!
Thank you!
