We got the word Tuesday, March 31 late afternoon that all the outdoor equipment for PICKLEBALL, bocce ball, and shuffleboard was just taken from the sports complex areas, and put into storage. WHAT!?!? We were doing so well by playing only with the same small group of people and we were disinfecting the balls after each game! I get it, but it’s disappointing. I realize the company of Cal-Am has to protect itself. Tonight Sue and Paul were going to try show us how to play shuffleboard, but I guess that will have to wait now till we return next fall/winter. Instead, Barry and I went out to play singles that night with our own ball. Rumor in the park was that even the nets were going to be taken down Wednesday!
April 1 we were going to move from site #1195 to #1169, but since we don’t have to be out by a certain time, I decided to go play pickleball in the morning as long as possible. Gordon and I play singles for about 2 1/2 hours. As we were playing our last game, the crew arrived to start taking down the nets. 🙁 I guess they take the nets down each year in May, so it was just happening a month earlier than normal. Still a bummer, but we everyone staying free from Covid-19 must be the priority.
Why move sites? Originally we thought having a corner site would be sweet, but unfortunately ours was cut a bit smaller due to the way the road curved. That really wasn’t that big of a deal, but it was a very busy corner with the laundry and water station right across from us. Barry felt we were always on full display since our outside patio area faced that area. Moving is a bit of a hassle, but is really not that bad. It was definitely worth it to us. It is nice for those of us already here to know that Cal-Am is not accepting any new reservations for spring/summer, and is not allowing anyone to pull in for an overnight stay. Anyone coming in with a previous reservation is being asked to self-quarantine in their RV for 14 days.
Luckily, the same day that we were hearing about the complete shutdown to the sports complex activities, we were looking at inflatable kiddie pools to help us get through incredible heat possibly in April and May. We ordered a decent one–an adult lounging pool. It should arrive by Saturday.
We are already thinking that we are likely to be here for the month of May, too! We really don’t want to be in Yuma for July and August with their typical temps in the 100s! We would like to go back to our lease site at Pio for June, but if we can’t take our planned summer trip up through CA, OR and visit with family and friends in WA, where will we go for July and August? Our lease is up July 1! Will we need to renew our lease site after all? We will check with the Fortuna De Oro office to see if there could be an issue with us returning in September should a “second wave” of the coronavirus appear late summer. Hopefully, having already made our reservations, we would be allowed back in.
