The temperatures each day were low triple digit highs, so what do we do to pass the time while waiting for our extended warranty claim to be approved?
Luckily, we had 50 amp power and were able to run both air conditioners the entire time to stay comfortable inside the RV, but we certainly missed our daily pool time at Carefree Village Resort in Yuma! Being hopeful that each day would be the last day of waiting, we didn’t want to venture too far or reach out to get together with friends in the Sun City West area.
We used one day to check out furniture at American Furniture. It was a huge place. We are happy to say that we did not see anything we liked as well or better than what we have ordered at Mor Furniture. However, we did like some of the options for various outdoor furniture and an area rug for our new living room. We will keep the information on these for when we are ready and see if they are available in the Yuma area.
Barry found a really nice park about 5 miles away that we went to most evenings just before sunset. Friendship Park was a nicely laid out park with so many soccer and football fields, a couple baseball fields, multiple play areas with specific age groups in mind for each, three dog parks, a large basketball court area, two large tennis courts with a couple portable pickleball courts., and a large duck/geese pond area. The park stayed quite busy throughout the evening. The tennis courts were the most unused portion of the park. We never saw anyone there to play pickleball, but the nets looked a bit cumbersome with the ends being a major tripping hazard. Too bad it wasn’t an active place for playing pickleball. We enjoyed walking the long winding path all around the perimeter of the park. It was our way to at least get a respectable number of steps completed for the day.
We tried a couple other “parks”. One that was OK, but not quite what we had hoped for for walking was Camelback Ranch in Glendale where the White Sox and the LA Dodgers hold their spring training and pre-season games. It was a pretty amazing complex from what we could see of it. Each team had 6 separate practice fields, there were a couple extra smaller fields, and the large stadium field with lights for official pre-season games. Because there are multiple parking areas we were able to walk the entire perimeter with occasional peeks into some of the practice fields.
The third place we drove to one evening just didn’t feel right. We’d have to leave the Jeep parked in a small dirt area that really didn’t appear to be for parking, and we weren’t sure where the “trail” was. Realizing there were no lights any where around we decided to just stick with Friendship Park.
We were just glad that we found a safe place to walk most evenings and some things to help break up our time at Velocity Truck Center. I was really happy that we were able to schedule a day with my brother while we were this close to his place in Glendale/Phoenix. That will be a separate blog post.
