Alligator In “Our” Pond

Gary and Patty came by our site after we played pickleball this morning. Patty was telling me about seeing one of the young alligators yesterday afternoon. She said it was out of the water up near a tree! As she was speaking, one of them pointed out to the water directly in front of us, and said, “There’s one of them now.” OMG…I quickly grabbed my phone and took a picture. The alligator was about halfway between us and the fountain.

A couple hours later I thought I’d walk out toward the lake edge to see if I could spot one again. Nothing. I decided to walk to the right checking out the reeds and the shallow part near the bank. Then I spotted what might be an alligator up on the bank. Or was it just a tree root? I took a few more steps. Yep, I’m pretty sure that’s an alligator, and I think he’s watching me! I’ll just take a picture from here with the help of a little zoom! I went directly back to the motorhome to tell Barry about it.

Of course Barry wanted to see the alligator. I pointed out the dark “tree root” up a good ways from us (6 trees away). We got to about the same spot I stopped a few minutes ago. The alligator looked at us and started for the water. That’s OK…I’d rather it go towards the water than towards us! (Click on a picture to zoom in more.)

Once an alligator gets too big, or if it becomes aggressive, the park has it removed. (Good to know!) Supposedly there is a water moccasin snake in the other lake!
