I thoroughly enjoyed doing triathlons up in Washington and Oregon, so when we decided to travel full time in our motorhome, I thought I’d be able to participate in triathlons along the way. Nice thought, but realistically I have no one to train with, or feel comfortable running or biking in unknown areas by myself. To ride in the Pio Pico area I would have a death wish to ride on the crazy windy, Otay Lakes road that does NOT have a shoulder. Vehicles and motorcycles go way to fast and pass on solid yellow lines and curves! No thank you! I haven’t ridden my bike in over a year with all the getting ready to move and then taking off full time in June 2018. My bike was just getting exposed to the elements as we carried it along on the bike rack all this time.
To actually decide to sell my Scott CR1 Pro carbon fiber road bicycle was hard. I had very mixed emotions about it. It would mean I was done with triathlons. Barry had an Sondors electric bike and loved it. He would zip around campgrounds, off-road, and the beach. I couldn’t go. I started to research e-bikes so t hat I would have something fun that would allow us to ride together again. After all, this “MovinOn” is all about a new chapter in our lives together.
Last week we went to Trek Bicycles so that I could test ride a couple e-bikes to see how I felt on one. I also did NOT want a “beach cruiser” style. I wasn’t ready for what I considered to be an old person’s bike, and not for a real bicyclist. I also didn’t want to spend a fortune for a new bike. The Orbea mountain bike was suggested to me. I tried it. WOW! It was definitely the feel I was looking for. It has 11 gears so I can manually ride or get a little assistance on hills or shooting across a busy street! It is so much better on my knees when starting up from a dead stop!! I was now motivated to sell my Scott. I was sad how low I had to go in price, but as our license plates say…I’m MovinOn! Plus I have to sell the Scott before I get my Orbea. š
Today, I sold my Scott. The gal who bought it was thrilled! Even though the Blue Book bike value was $1350, I sold it for $775. She will be using the Scott for a century ride and hopes to also do some triathlons. Her boyfriend is really into riding. So, I’m glad that the bike will be use well, and she appreciates what she got. She said she could never afford such a nice bike new. I felt good with the sale and immediately went to Trek to buy my Orbea. It was #3299 MRSP, but was on sale for $2099.
